Weenen woman murdered, family assaulted during attack

The family was threatened with a knife, while the suspects demanded cash

Locals are reeling with shock as reports of a young woman brutally murdered in Weenen have surfaced.

In what is being described as a ‘farm attack’ (although not confirmed by police) took place at a family residence in Weenen yesterday (July 4).

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said that three unknown suspects entered the house at about 7pm.
The family, consisting of a husband, wife and their two children, was threatened with a knife, while the suspects demanded cash.

“They allegedly fought with the husband, while they took the children into one of the rooms. The wife was taken to the bathroom. The 26-year-old woman was found inside the bathroom with her throat slit. She was certified dead at the scene,” commented Captain Gwala.

It is reported that the woman was pregnant at the time; this has not been confirmed by police.

The husband was also injured and rushed to Estcourt Hospital last night.

“Nothing was taken from the house. Weenen SAPS is investigating a case of murder. The matter receiving immediate attention,” added Captain Gwala.
