Initial investigations at the scene painted a picture of merriment that suddenly turned deadly.

Police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi explained that, according to witness accounts, the soon-to-be murder victim and his friends were approached by a man who allegedly asked for alcohol and said he wanted to stay with the group.

The newcomer was evidently told to drink and leave. He did that, but returned with his mother after a few minutes.
As the deceased was leaving, the man and his mother allegedly followed him and he was stabbed. The victim’s collarbone was penetrated.

After following up on information received, police arrested both the mother (47) and son (30).

“Wembezi police are investigating a case of murder and request anyone who can assist with information to contact 036-353-0100,” added Captain Nyathi.
