Responders on scene at ‘out of control’ fire break
According to sources, the fire began with a scheduled fire break.
A fire has broken out near the Southern Coal/ Ferroglobe Silicon Smelters/ Silicon Technology (Siltech) site, just outside Newcastle.
Journalists at the scene were denied access to the premises, and management declined to make a statement. However, fire teams from Community Safety and paramedics are currently at the scene.
Sources have indicated the fire, which started from a scheduled fire break, got out of hand and a building on the property has also reportedly caught alight since.
