Protest action flares up again in Hattingspruit

Motorists are again urged to avoid the area

Protest action has started again early this morning in Hattingspruit. Local residents contacted the Courier to report that tyres had been set alight in the central town.

There is, presently, no sign of any blockages at the old drive-in settlement, where on Tuesday protesters blocked the road with rocks, tyres and branches.

The protest is linked to what community members say is the ‘unfair allocation of jobs’ at a local mine and at other businesses in the village. They want preference to be given to Hattingspruit residents.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and to avoid Hattingspruit.
