Good Samaritan hijacked at gunpoint

One man’s good deed turned into a terrifying ordeal after he was hijacked at gun point.

The man was travelling along the R74 close to Winterton at about 8pm on July 17 when he noticed an overturned vehicle on the road next to Mara Farm.

Despite the darkness and cold, the man decided to stop and assist the occupants.

While he was trying to assist, the vehicle’s occupants brandished a firearm, took the man’s vehicle and fled.
The vehicle was later recovered in an area called Estates in Winterton.

Police later found out that the suspects’ overturned vehicle was reported stolen in Gauteng during July 2020.

“No arrests have been made and the Winterton police is investigating the case. The victim did not sustain any injuries during the commission of this hijacking. Anyone with information can call toll-free number 08600 10111 or use the ‘MySAPS’ App,” commented police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.
