Beer confiscated, suspects arrested in joint police operation

Eight crates of beer were confiscated during the raid on July 19.

Police are clamping down on those contravening the Disaster Management Act of 2020.

As part of an intelligence driven operation on July 19, members of the Newcastle Cluster Task Team, Osizweni Crime Prevention and Osizweni Reservists arrested one suspect after confiscating eight crates of beer from a home in Section A.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of SAPS Newcastle Corporate Communications, this arrest was quickly followed by the arrest of two more suspects who failed to comply with Government regulations.

“During the night [of July 19] members were patrolling on a public road in the Section A area next to the Clinic and came across two suspects who were subsequently arrested for failure to confine to their own places of residence in terms of the Disaster Management Act of 2020,” confirmed Arumugam.

The suspects have appeared in court.
