Illegal firearm and live ammunition confiscated during police raid

Several suspects were arrested during the joint intelligence operation.

During a joint operation between the Newcastle Cluster Task Team, Osizweni Crime Prevention and Osizweni Reservists, four suspects were arrested for various crimes in the Osizweni policing area.

Lizzy Arumugam of Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications said that the intelligence driven operation on July 19 began with a raid in Section E.

“Members arrested one suspect for dealing in dagga and recovered five buckets of dry, loose dagga from the suspect’s home. The total weight of the dagga was 4.54 kilogrammes,” she confirmed.

Later on, officials raided a home in the Manzana area next to Enyonini Church and took down two suspects who were in possession of 17 Mandrax tablets.

“In yet another raid at a home at Jalalaa span, police recovered one Ruger 9mm pistol, one magazine and four live rounds of ammunition for a 9mm pistol. One suspect was subsequently arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunitions.”
