Last night (August 5) at about 10pm, a truck was set alight along the Pieters road near the Helpmekaar intersection.
According to Ladysmith police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi, a company truck was travelling along the Pieters road when the driver noticed two African males emerging from the bush.
One of them threw a rock at the truck’s windscreen.
The suspects then proceeded to stop the truck, and disconnected the trailers from the horse. After that, they poured petrol through the window. That’s when the driver jumped out and hid in the bush.
The horse (cab) was completely gutted in the ensuing blaze, but the two trailers were not damaged.
Captain Nyathi added that the truck was on its way to Normandien Farm, having come from Durban.
