The taxi driver who was shot dead on Thursday, July 16, has been identified as Vusumuzi Ngwenya.
51-year-old Ngwenya was driving a Toyota Quantum taxi (belonging to the Masihambisane Taxi Association in Newcastle) and was heading out of Ladysmith when he was ambushed by unknown gunmen on the N11 just before the turn-off to Modelkloof. He was declared dead at the scene.
“I condemn taxi killings, as they tarnish the name of our business and we end up losing respect because of such acts of crime,” said Masihambisane Taxi Association chairperson Mr Nzima.
