Suspect (65) arrested for selling alcohol

The estimated value of liquor recovered was approximately R1 800.

One male suspect (65) was arrested on July 22 after being caught contravening the Disaster Management Act of 2020.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of SAPS Newcastle Corporate Communications, an intelligence driven operation on July 22 led to the arrest.

“The operation consisted of members from Osizweni Crime Prevention and Osizweni Reservists,” explained Arumugam. “In the Osizweni policing area, members were on their way to a house in Section A when they spotted a vehicle on the public road leading to the Road House Tuck Shop. When they searched the vehicle, they found sealed boxes of liquor and ciders in a cooler box.”

The suspect was promptly apprehended and has since appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court.

“The estimated value of the liquor recovered was about R1 800,” concluded Arumugam.
