Post Office burglary temporarily halts grant pay outs

The Dannhauser Post Office was targeted by thieves on the long weekend

Dannhauser Post Office is closed today to allow police to comb the premises for fingerprints following a break in on Saturday evening.

It was said that an ‘undisclosed sum of cash’ was taken after the burglars broke open the safe. It was said that the money was for those who qualify for the temporary R350 social grant that is to continue until October, for those who are unemployed and who do not qualify for any other social grant.

Captain Nqobile Gwala of the KZN SAPS Media Centre could not confirm this but said the Dundee SAPS is is investigating a burglary case.

Dannhauser residents who contacted the Courier today, Wednesday, said those queuing up for the grant had been turned away.
