NEWCASTLE ADVERTISER: Police take down suspects for illegal firearms

The suspects appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate's Court for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Two suspects were arrested for being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

During an intelligence driven operation, led by local SAPS and members from the Osizweni Crime Prevention, a raid was conducted in the Osizweni policing area on September 2.

“Members were patrolling Section E in Osizweni, near Osizweni High School during the night when they came across two suspects and searched them. A silver CZ 9-millimetre(mm) 7.65 pistol was recovered, with one silver magazine, one black holster and one live round of 9mm pistol ammunition,” explained Lizzy Arumugam of SAPS Newcastle Corporate Communications.

The estimated value for the firearm recovered was around R13 000.

The suspects, aged 23 and 24, appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court.
