NEWCASTLE ADVERTISER: Municipality extends bill payment date for certain areas

The cut-off date for payment has been extended to later this week.

The Newcastle Municipality has extended its payment date for municipal bills for the following areas:

– Fernwood

– Paradise

– Lennoxton

– Central.

“We are aware of the high municipal bills for consumers in these areas, as a result of averaged meter readings for the month of July’s municipal bills,” commented Mlungisi Khumalo, Head of Communications for Newcastle Municipality.

He confirmed the August municipal bills were based on actual meter reading and reflected winter consumption, while also ‘catching on the previous month’s lower estimate’, and explained this was the reason for the ‘big jump in consumption units’.

“The municipality is encouraging consumers from the areas above, who have difficulty in making the required payments, to visit the municipal offices in order to make payment arrangements OR present queries, should there be any,” advised Khumalo.

The cut-off payment date has been extended to Friday, September 11.
