Ladysmith KZN: Shepstone Road is pothole paradise…

The water comes from a leak at a nearby school

The water-logged state of Shepstone Road has literally turned the street into a ‘pothole paradise’. Water continuously flows over the road, day and night, from a manmade pit at a nearby school. This has caused normal wear and tear on the road surface to be exacerbated. Potholes a metre wide and in some cases 50 centimetres deep constantly pound passing traffic.

A bakkie hits one of the potholes with a loud thud, and other vehicles swerve to avoid the holes.

uThukela Water Services Manager Glen Singh has stressed that the water leak has nothing to do with uThukela. “The problem comes from the nearby school,” he explained.
