Ladysmith KZN: Streetlights burn bright in the day and die in the dead of night

The ward councillor says it's a shocking waste of electricity

Ward Councillor Roshie Bhoobun is outraged about the ‘streetlight situation’ in Kandahar Avenue.

Cllr Bhoobun says the streetlights burn bright when the sun is shining, but paradoxically die at night when illumination is needed in this ‘main street’.

“At night, these lights are off… but in the day, they are on. What is the purpose of that? Electricity is shockingly wasted in the daylight hours and people are then left blind and afraid at night!” fumes the councillor.

She says Kandahar Avenue is in pitch darkness at night and that she is afraid to even step out of her home.

The municipality had not commented on the matter at the time of publishing this article.
