An electric cable fault at the Wagendrift raw water pump caused the water interruptions.
In the latest public notice issued by uThukela District Municipality today (June 5), plans to increase the number of water tanks are being organised to service areas that do not have water while a long-term solution is on the cards.
“The municipality is in a process of hiring two heavy duty generators that will supply 900kw of power in order to supply water to the affected communities in the industrial area and Wards 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17. To get these generators commissioned and operational it would probably take us up to three to four days,” said communication manager Jabulani Mkhonza.
He added that delivery of water via tankers to the affected areas will be stepped up and ward councillors will be informed about the schedules of the trucks.
