ANC loses all wards previously held in Inkosi Langalibalele

The IFP is returning to control in the municipality.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has not yet officially announced all the results in the Local Government Elections held yesterday (November 4), as the counting continues.

However, the results for Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality are in, and it appears that the African National Congress (ANC) has suffered a major setback in Estcourt.

According to results posted by Mayor Mduduzi Myeza today, the ANC has lost all the wards it previously held and failed to win any of the 24 wards in the municipality.

The ANC previously held Ward 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 19, 20 and 24.

IFP dominates ward results

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) emerged as the biggest winner, securing 16 of the municipality’s 24 wards.

The IFP won Ward 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23.

The MK Party (MKP) secured four wards, namely 2, 5, 9 and 24, while the Democratic Alliance (DA) won Ward 10, 11 and 17.

An independent candidate won Ward 14.
