ESTCOURT KZN: Municipality granted court order to cease fibre-optic cable installations
The court order further directs Herotel to ‘reinstate and be made safe for members of the public’ any of the areas that have been ‘disturbed or worked on’
Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality brought an urgent interdict before Judge Bezuidenhout in the Pietermaritzburg High Court yesterday (June 17) restricting fibre-optic cable installation company Herotel from continuing their work within the municipality’s jurisdiction.
The company has, during the past weeks, been installing fibre-optic cables in and around Estcourt that would bring high speed internet to the town.
Yesterday, a court order was granted in favour of the local municipality.
The court order reads: “The Respondent (Hero Telecoms (PTY) LTD T/A Herotel) is hereby interdicted and restrained from continuing any fibre-optic installations, civil and/or construction work or other work related thereto within the Applicant’s (Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality) jurisdictional boundaries”.
The court order further directs Herotel to ‘reinstate and be made safe for members of the public’ any of the areas that have been ‘disturbed or worked on’.
Damage caused to roads, pavements and driveways during the fibre-optic cable installation has been a bone of contention for locals who are demanding that Herotel repair the damage.
