Ladysmith KZN: uThukela hands over boreholes in Hambrook and Potshini
"While we are waiting to provide this community with piped water, we can use boreholes as a temporary measure"
Water, Sanitation & Technical Services chairperson Cllr S Dlungwane handed over two boreholes to the communities of Hambrook and Potshini on Monday (October 18). Cllr Dlungwane was accompanied by Ward 11 Cllr Sgubudu and Ward 12 Cllr Zikalala from Okhahlamba Local Municipality.
Cllr Dlungwane said that, as uThukela District Municipality, they are mandated to make sure that communities have access to water. He went on to say that “our work as uThukela is to deliver water and sanitation services. Where there are springs, we protect them for safe consumption. We also supply water through pipelines. But we have seen that while we are waiting to provide this community with piped water, we can use boreholes as a temporary measure.”

The ward councillors said they appreciated the district’s efforts, as the situation has been dire due to one borehole drying up in the winter months.
Later that day, the team proceeded to the Enyonyaneni area (Ward 2) in Emmaus, where they were joined by uThukela Deputy Mayor NW Mchunu and Cllr Hadebe to introduce the contractor who will be installing a steel water storage tank.
