All the sporting action at Sarel Cilliers

Well done to Khanyisile van der Westhuizen and Akhona Phungula for being selected for the girls' side, and to boys Tshepang Mokoena and Asanda Oxberg for being selected out of the more than 100 students.

Sarel Cilliers held their first school tennis tournament on Friday. The tournament was well attended, with both players and spectators excited to participate and spectate.
The players were competitive and contested some excellent matches. It was exciting to see such emerging talent on the courts. Well done to the following players for winning their age categories: U/14 – Yolanda Biyela (girls) and Mlamuli Zulu (boys); U/15 – Angel Promiser; U/16 – Nandipha Zwane; U/18 – Kylan Swanepoel (girls) and Thando Msane (boys). Hopefully the tournament will encourage more learners to take part in future tennis fixtures.
Sarel Cilliers set off to play sport against Ladysmith High School on Saturday, where the chess team won 5.5 to 4.5.
Well done, chess players! On the sports fields, the boys’ hockey teams won both their games.
The boys’ hockey first team played an exciting game, with both teams equally matched, but fortune favoured the bold and the boys battled right until the final whistle to win with a final score of 4-2.
It was fantastic to see such excellent hockey being played, and the spectators’ support really contributed to the exciting atmosphere of the game. The boys’ second team also won with a score of 2-0. Well done to hockey boys Lungelo and Ithandile for some exceptional play.
The rugby first team also brought home a convincing win with a score of 32-15, while the rugby second team won 19-0.
The netball teams played some strenuous matches against strong opposition, with some teams faring better than others. The U/14 A team lost 13-16, U/14 B team won with a narrow 7-6, U/15 A team lost 11-29, U/15 B team lost 2-7, and U/16 won 16-13.
Well done to all the sports teams for playing their very best and giving it their all.
Soccer trials took place on Saturday in Dundee. Two boys and two girls were selected from Sarel Cilliers to represent the district. Well done to Khanyisile van der Westhuizen and Akhona Phungula for being selected for the girls’ side, and to boys Tshepang Mokoena and Asanda Oxberg for being selected out of the more than 100 students who took part in the trials. With such stiff competition, it is a testament to the talent of our learners, and we congratulate them on being selected.
The next sports fixture will take place against St Dominic’s, Newcastle.
Teams will play on Wednesday and Thursday due to trials taking place on Saturday.
We wish all the players well.
