On November 16, 2018, the Vryheid Herald published an article entitled ‘Zululand mayor in court in connection with political killing’.

The article reported that Thulasizwe Buthelezi was to appear in court in connection with the murder of an ANC councillor.

At the time, the information was believed to be true, but soon proved to be false. Buthelezi never appeared in court in relation to the murder of the ANC councillor.

The Vryheid Herald unconditionally retracts the article, particularly the false allegations against Mr Buthelezi, and apologises to Mr Buthelezi for any harm caused.
