Illegal firearm seized in Loskop

The operation was carried out during the early hours of the morning

Roused from his sleep, a man was unpleasantly surprised to find a group of police officers in his home.

‘Striking’ during the early hours of the morning on April 19, officers from Uthukela District Crime Intelligence entered a home in the Engonyameni area of Loskop (Amangwe) to carry out a search.

The 39-year-old occupant was found in possession of an unlicensed pistol.

“The weapon had eight rounds of ammunition in its magazine. A spare magazine was also recovered with the weapon,” commented police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

The man was arrested and appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court the next day.

He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and will be profiled to determine if he has been involved in any other crimes.
