Guest house gutted by early morning fire –

Occupants of an establishment on Drakensberg Drive are in a state of shock, after one of the buildings caught fire earlier this morning. A worker, who lives on the property permanently, alleged that a small fire started in the kitchen.

I saw the flames and tried to kill the fire with water. All of a sudden, the fire was bigger and I couldn’t control it, so I ran to the neighbours for help,” she said.

Members of the nearby Deo Victoria Church, as well as other neighbours, quickly rushed to the burning house and attempted to extinguish the flames. They also contacted authorities for assistance.

Within minutes, Newcastle Fire Services and local medical services were on-scene. Unfortunately, the kitchen and entire dining room/ living room area was gutted.

Jan-Henk van Vuuren of Magenta Medical Services attended the scene and confirmed that no one was injured during the blaze.

Preliminary investigations are currently underway, to determine the exact cause of the fire.
