Newcastle to host national rifle contest

The KwaZulu-Natal Hunting and Conservation Association will host the NRL.22 (National Rifle League) next Saturday (July 9). The event takes place from 09:00 at the Buffalo River Shooting Range.

Event organiser, Anthony Barraball said the aim of NRL.22 is to provide shooters with more opportunities for exposure at National Rifle League South Africa (NRLSA) disciplines.

The ultimate goal of this is to expand the local shooter base and assist new marksmen at grassroots level.

The NRL.22 understands that the shooting community is fascinated with precision rifles, but most localities are not fortunate enough to have extended shooting ranges. However, nearly all localities have access to 100m ranges and there are many .22 rifles around.”

Barraball stated that the bi-monthly course of fire, NRL.22 standard target package and standard barricades, are all intended to be ‘turnkey solutions’ to simple, fun and affordable precision rifle matches.

At NRL.22 in Newcastle, local shooting clubs will be able to submit scores from their shooters to the NRLSA from every course of fire.

[This] allows their shooters to measure the skill level, progress and ultimately compete with the entire country,” he concluded.
