Woman abducted, drugged and raped – perpetrator arrested
A suspected rapist was apprehended and charged with rape after he allegedly drugged, abducted, and raped a young woman over the weekend.
Imran Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighter’s Task Team (CCPA) said his team had been informed of a young woman – allegedly not in her right state of mind – who had approached a member of the public asking for help.
The woman was taken to the Newcastle police station for further assistance.
The woman explained that she had been out for supper with a friend at a local establishment; however, she could not remember anything after that.
She alleged that when she woke up she was at a house she did not recognise and had no clothing on. She left the house to seek help.
The Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team, together with Sergeant Mdluli of the Newcastle FCS Unit and Warrant Officer Williams of the Newcastle Crime Office, quickly conducted an investigation that revealed the woman had been drugged, abducted, and raped.
“We recovered the women’s clothing at the house where she had been taken too and also noted that the house had been ransacked and a window had been broken,” said Ghafoor.
Police were able to identify the suspect’s whereabouts and requested additional backup due to his violent nature and behaviour.
“The suspect was eventually arrested and charged with kidnapping and rape,” concluded Ghafoor.
