CPF murder case: Accused refused bail again

The three Newcastle CPF members accused of murder were on Wednesday morning (November 6) again refused bail when they appeared before a packed courtroom.

Magistrate Vernita Mundell again denied bail for Ismaeel Dhalech (40), Ebrahim Adams (38) and Yaseen Mohamed (30).

She made the ruling before a packed court on Wednesday morning (November 6).

Adams did not appear as he is in hospital.

The trio, and a fourth accused, a Grade 11 learner who was previously granted bail have been in custody since their arrest on September 23 when they were charged with the murder of Khulekani Hlatshwayo (26) who was brutally beaten on December 24, 2022, and died on the way to the hospital the following day.

Magistrate Mundell made her ruling after the accused appeared in court last Friday to reapply for bail based on what they said were new facts.

She said that the new facts brought forward in last week’s appearance were ‘an elaboration of old facts and that what was considered new facts’ was not enough to persuade her to change her initial judgement.’

The case has now been remanded to November 19 for a regional court date.

A full and detailed report of what transpired in court on Wednesday as well as last week Friday will be published in this week’s edition of the Newcastle Advertiser, on sale from Thursday.
