Drive More Safely launches children’s wire car competition

Children can enter a recycled wire car competition promoting creativity and road safety.

Children are being challenged to put their creativity and recycling skills to the test by building handmade wire cars (draadkar) for an upcoming competition hosted by Drive More Safely NPO.

With the theme ‘See and Be Seen’, the competition aims to encourage children to think about road safety while creating their own models from recycled materials.

Entries are open to boys and girls of all ages, with parents allowed to assist, although the cars must be the children’s own work. Bought models will not be accepted, and every entry must be accompanied by a completed entry form.

Entries and public voting at the mall

The completed wire cars must be handed in at Princess Makabayi Mall with the entry form by December 17.

All entries will be displayed at the mall from December 17 to 24, giving the public an opportunity to view the creations and vote for their favourites. Voting takes place until December 23, with no votes accepted on December 24.

Cash prizes up for grabs

Prizes include R1 500 for first place, R1 000 for second place and R500 for third place. Entrants placing fourth to 10th will each receive R150.

The prize-giving ceremony is scheduled for December 24.

Entry forms are available at the mall and at schools. For more information, contact Alida Venter on 061 428 5231.

Children are encouraged to start building their cars now and use their imagination to create something original while keeping the message of road safety in mind.
