SAPS hosts heart-felt cancer awareness candle light ceremony
The Newcastle SAPS hosted a Cancer Awareness and Candlelight Ceremony on October 25 in collaboration with the Communications Department, Social Crime Prevention, Women's Network, and Men for Change.
Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Department described the gathering, attended by Amajuba District Commissioner, Major General Frederick Alexander, as impactful.
Alexander highlighted the importance of members going for regular health check-ups, their spiritual well-being, and their duty to serve and protect the community.
The event opened with a heartfelt prayer by SAC’s N.C. Ndlovu who set the tone for the proceedings.
Alexander’s motivational address underscored the significance of health awareness for SAPS members and encouraged more vigilance and support within the community.
Representatives from the Department of Health shared much-needed valuable insights into cancer, its effects, and strategies for prevention.
Attendees were also graced with a poem recital and connected emotionally with the singing of the National Anthem.
This was followed by a candle lighting ceremony, led by Alexander, to symbolise hope and remembrance.
As members held their candles, a collective prayer was said to honour those affected by cancer and pay tribute to those who have lost their loved ones to the disease.
