Major crash occurred on Monday (Tonight) 6 January 2025 at approximately 20:30 on the N3 on the Van Reenen Pass, KZN.

A truck, minibus and a light motor vehicle were involved in a multiple vehicle crash that resulted in 18 fatalities (13 adults and 5 children) and 1 seriously injured baby.

The cause of the crash is unknown and will be subject to the ongoing investigation.

ALL LANES ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED ON VAN REENEN PASS at N3-6X Km 49S following a serious crash involving a taxi, truck and light motor vehicle which has resulted in multiple fatalities.

All traffic is currently being stacked between the Pyramids Motel and Van Reenen Town while emergency services are attending to the scene. Traffic is already heavily backed up in the vicinity of the crash.
Reports have also been received of poor weather, heavy mist, and dangerous driving conditions in the area.

It is strongly recommended that road users delay travel to this section of the N3 Toll Route until further notice. Please reduce speed and remain extra cautious on the roads tonight.
