Lethu Mthembu (21) was born and bred in Vryheid but recently had an incredible opportunity to create a song for a competition that will feature on one of the most well-known radio stations in KwaZulu-Natal. Mthembu’s song is one of the Top 5 finalists in the very legendary ‘Suncoast East Coast Radio Big Walk Anthem Competition.’
Mthembu says that joining the ‘Big Walk Anthem Competition’ felt like a natural step since it enabled him to connect with people through his passion for music. Mthembu adds: ‘’Hearing my demo played on East Coast Radio for the first time was surreal—knowing my voice and message were reaching so many listeners was a moment I’ll never forget.’’
Mthembu further mentions: ‘’Growing up in Vryheid, I was surrounded by a mix of challenges and inspiration. The town shaped me in so many ways, teaching me resilience and the value of chasing my dreams despite the odds. Music has always been my escape and a way to express myself authentically.”
“Creating the Anthem was a personal journey for me. I wanted to craft something that wasn’t just catchy but truly reflected the energy, togetherness, and excitement of the ‘Big Walk’. I drew inspiration from the beauty of the event itself, a celebration of community and progress. Winning this competition would mean everything to me, not just for my career but for the opportunity to show others that no matter where you come from, your voice matters. It’s not just about music; it’s about making a mark and sharing my story with the world.”
