Local firefighters selflessly help SPCA to rescue trapped puppies
Two helpless stray puppies, stuck in a drainpipe, were brought to safety after three Newcastle firefighters assisted the SPCA rescue the stranded animals.
According to the Newcastle SPCA, a concerned resident alerted the Newcastle Fire Brigade that four puppies needed urgent help after becoming trapped in a drain pipe.
“Without hesitation, these brave firefighters rushed to the scene to assess the situation. Once they confirmed the pups’ predicament, they swiftly contacted the Newcastle SPCA for assistance,” said a member of the Newcastle SPCA.
The firefighters were able to safely rescue two terrified puppies and hand them over to the SPCA.
However, there was no sign of the other two puppies.
The puppies, unfortunately, have a severe tick infestation and were immediately given the necessary treatment, including a thorough bath and a much-needed meal.
“Thank you to the firefighter for prioritising animal welfare. We will monitor the drains in this area, leaving food and water for the possibly remaining two pups. We are committed to finding them if they are there,” concluded the SPCA spokesperson.
