Newcastle Municipality is making a huge push to boost service delivery in Ward 21 with the launch last Thursday, April 17, of the Mayoral Intervention Programme.
Mayor Xolani Dube described the programme as a paradigm shift in local governance to address urgent service delivery needs and instil a culture of responsiveness and accountability.
The municipality said the push ‘showed that the municipality was keen on tapping into collaborative governance and innovative solutions to address complex needs.’
“By leveraging partnerships and expertise, the municipality aims to create a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future for all,” the municipality said.
“The programme’s emphasis on community engagement, participatory planning, and inclusive decision-making processes underscores the municipality’s dedication to empowering residents and promoting social cohesion.”
Newcastle Municipality believes it is poised ‘to make a lasting legacy in the lives of its citizens, promoting economic growth, quality of life, and general well-being.’
“This programme further aligns with the municipality’s vision of becoming ‘a sustainable, economically vibrant city region that affords its citizens a high quality of life’.
“Other municipal teams were said to also be continuing their efforts to improve service delivery in both Newcastle East and West at the same time.”
