Police foil copper cable theft in late-night operation

A copper theft syndicate was disrupted as police recovered R300,000 worth of stolen cables during late-night operation.

A suspect was arrested and copper cables valued at approximately R300,000 recovered during a night-time undercover operation conducted on May 7.

The operation followed intelligence received about a syndicate involved in the theft of copper cables from railway infrastructure.

An informer was placed and a specialised task team deployed to act on the information.

The operational team included members of SAPS C Shift Crime Prevention—Sergeant P Birbal, Sergeant Buthalezi, Constable MF Khumalo, Constable Mlambo and Constable Sibisi—working in collaboration with the Afriguard Task Team and the Crime Fighter Task Team (CCPA), led by A. Essop.
