Man sentenced to 15 years for brutal assault on young girl
A local man received a 15-year sentence for the vicious assault on a nine-year-old girl, highlighting SAPS’s commitment to child protection.
Nkosinathi Zulu, aged 33, was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment after he was found guilty of assaulting a nine-year-old child and of causing grievous bodily harm.
The brutal attack took place on December 3, 2024, when Zulu chased and brutally assaulted the child, leaving her with open facial lacerations.

She was hospitalised as a result of the severe injuries.
Zulu appeared in the Madadeni Regional Court and convicted on April 25.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The case was meticulously handled by Constable Mtambo, whose exceptional investigative work was instrumental in identifying and arresting the perpetrator.
Lieutenant Colonel SL Chapi, Commander of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, publicly praised Mtambo for his dedication and professionalism.
“This conviction reflects the SAPS’s unwavering commitment to protecting our communities—especially our children—who are among the most vulnerable in society,” said Lt Col Chapi.
