Community Soccer Tournament Fights Substance Abuse

A growing Bhekuzulu sports tournament helps steer young boys away from drugs and crime.

Sifiso Mtshali hosted the second annual ‘fighting substance abuse and crime with sport’ tournament in Bhekuzulu on Saturday. The event brought together young boys who competed in soccer matches aimed at keeping them away from substance abuse and criminal activities.

A Vision to Protect the Boy Child

Mtshali said it is his dream to see the tournament grow, as many boys in the community continue to face challenges related to drugs and crime.
“This is the second year I have hosted this tournament, and it was a success. But I wish to see the South African Police Services, Department of Correctional Services and other departments come on board to guide the boy child in the right direction. Here, we want to build future noble men,” he said

Sponsors and Community Support

He extended his gratitude to the main sponsor, Lafezeka Cosmetics; all participants; parents; Nomfundo Mdlalose; and Khulekani Mkhize for their support and contributions towards making the tournament a success.
