Bowlers compete for district singles titles
Players battled for district honours at The Nest Bowling Club.
Nestled in the foothills of the snow-covered Drakensberg, The Nest Bowling Club hosted the KZNCB 2026 Singles Play-offs last weekend.
District champions crowned after round robin play
Following five rounds of round robin play in each division, the winners and runners-up from the Midlands, Northerns and Zululand zones competed for the district titles.
In the Open Ladies division, Dundee’s Elsie de Jager claimed the title, followed by Michelle Pretorius of Empangeni in second place and Eunice Duvenage of Richards Bay in third.
The Open Men’s title went to Mannie Brockman of Empangeni. Ian de Jager of Dundee finished second, while John Douthwaite of Newcastle secured third place.
Barbara Baleri of Klipbank won the Veterans Ladies title, with Inge Coetzee of St Lucia finishing second and Sharon Baird taking third place.
The Veterans Men’s title was claimed by newcomer Jaco Beetge of Klipbank, who was the only player to remain unbeaten throughout the competition.
Theuns Fraser of The Nest finished second, followed by Egon Brockman of Dundee in third.
Trials begin for 2027 Inter District teams
The singles competition was followed by two days of trials for invited players as selectors began choosing teams for the 2027 Inter District tournaments.
Further trials will be held in October and November before the final teams are announced.
