Newcastle’s youth unite in worship
For Edge Connect, that sense of belonging is central to its mission.
There was no shortage of energy at Cutting Edge Ministries on Friday evening as the voices of Newcastle rang out in song and praise during a special Worship Circle gathering.
Hosted by the church’s youth group, Edge Connect, Friday’s event brought people together for an evening filled with music, worship, dancing and fellowship.
From the opening moments, the atmosphere was electric.
People sang with enthusiasm, danced, and worshipped Jesus together, creating a powerful display of joy and unity.
Adding to the evening was Heart of Worship, a music team from Durban, which was invited to join the gathering and lead the congregation in worship.
Their presence helped create an energetic and uplifting atmosphere that kept everyone engaged throughout the evening.
Creating a place to belong
But beyond the music and celebration, the evening represented something much bigger; Young people coming together across different backgrounds and walks of faith in an atmosphere of acceptance and unity.

The youth group was established with a vision of bringing young people together and providing a safe environment where they can build friendships, develop their faith and find positive guidance as they navigate the challenges of growing up.
Every Friday at 19:00, Edge Connect opens its doors to young people from the Newcastle community.
The gatherings provide an opportunity to socialise, learn valuable life lessons and connect with leaders who are available to listen, encourage and offer guidance on issues ranging from school and relationships to future careers and life decisions.
In a world where many young people can feel isolated or uncertain about where to turn, the leaders behind Edge Connect believe that having a trusted person to talk to can make all the difference.
“Every young person needs someone they can speak to, confide in, and seek advice and guidance from,” is at the heart of the ministry’s approach.
Supporting Newcastle’s next generation
The programme extends beyond Friday-night gatherings.
Edge Connect also hosts regular sporting events, giving young people another opportunity to socialise, stay active and develop positive relationships.
The broader vision is clear: To provide Newcastle’s youth with positive alternatives, keep them away from the dangers of the streets, and encourage them to pursue their potential.
“For the leaders, this is ultimately about investing in the next generation and helping young people discover the gifts, abilities and purpose they believe God has placed within them. “
Friday night’s Worship Circle offered a glimpse of what that vision can look like; A room filled with young people, united in music and worship, celebrating their faith and simply enjoying being together.
And judging by the energy in the room, there is plenty more to come!
Edge Connect welcomes young people from across Newcastle to join them every Friday at 19:00 at Cutting Edge Ministries, 19 Nightingale Street.
