One school child confirmed dead in Hattingspruit horror crash

The State will oppose bail

The driver of a bakkie that allegedly crashed into a back of a taxi, transporting school children to school, near Hattingspruit yesterday is to appear today in the Dannhauser Magistrate’s Court.

The State will oppose bail.

Hattingspruit SAPS confirmed that one child died on the scene.

Fourteen Dundee Junior children suffered various injuries and were admitted to various hospitals in the area.

Most of the others in the taxi – said to be around 15 – suffered various injuries.

There were 19 children from Dundee Junior in the taxi.

Another taxi, transporting Dundee High students,  that was travelling a short distance further back, stopped to assist the crash victims.

Some of the DHS students had siblings that were involved in the crash. For them, it was a traumatizing experience.
