Copper wire thieves resort to brutal murder

The guard had only been working for the company for three days

Merciless copper thieves murdered a security guard in an attempt to make off with cabling. The attack happened at the old Kilty’s factory on the Dundee/Glencoe road in the early hours of last Sunday morning (March 18).
A visibly shaken Preshu Singh, who owns the security company 360Boyz , said that Xolani Mvelase had only been working for him for three days when he was attacked.
“I was with him until about midnight on Saturday at his post, before going home.
“It was only when the day shift guard arrived to relieve Xolani that he was found lying face down. He had been tied up and stabbed in the heart,” Preshu told the Courier.
“It appears as if he put up a brave fight. I estimate that at least three to four men attacked him.
“Ironically, they tried cutting the cabling, but it looks as if they failed to get away with anything.”
Preshu added that he hopes the SAPS will make an arrest ‘very soon’.
Copper cable and pipe thieves have cut a swathe of destruction across the area in recent weeks, stealing copper pipes from homes and businesses and ripping out electrical cabling from municipal substations.
Some arrests have been effected and calls have been made for the authorities to take action against those who illegally buy copper.
