10 years jail time for ‘pro’ burglar

"The community needs to know that, as the SAPS, we are doing our very best to ensure that perpetrators remain behind bars once they have been sentenced.

Thabiso Sibisi (29) of Sibongile has been jailed for 10 years after he was found guilty of housebreaking and theft
Detective Sergeant Sonja du Plooy, the investigating officer, arrested Sibisi in November 2021 in connection with multiple housebreakings in Anne Street. Sibisi, according to Detective Du Plooy, would survey his victims by closely monitoring their daily routines before breaking into their houses.
“He had multiple cases of housebreak-ins against him, with concrete evidence, but he still pleaded not guilty,” Du Plooy said. She added that during his trial, Magistrate S Mpungose referred to Sibisi as a ‘professional housebreaker’.
“The community needs to know that, as the SAPS, we are doing our very best to ensure that perpetrators remain behind bars once they have been sentenced.
“The number of housebreakings is on the rise, especially with winter rapidly approaching,” said Du Plooy. “For us to obtain successful convictions, we need the community to constantly report crimes.”
Sibisi was detained in custody for the duration of the trial, which lasted two years. He will complete his prison term at the local correctional facility.
