Clean sweep for Sarel Cilliers’ soccer stars
Sarel Cilliers has some very talented players and we expect great things from the teams this season.
The Sarel Cilliers boys’ and girls’ soccer teams played against Estcourt High School on Saturday.
The U/15 boys won 2-0, while the second team boys won 2-1, first team girls won 5-0 and first team boys won 1-0. It was a clean sweep for all the teams; an excellent day out, with some top-quality soccer played!
The rugby teams travelled to Pioneer High School to take part in the rugby tournament, where they won the semi-finals against Vryheid Landbou 33-12 to progress through to the finals against Piet Retief. In an epic battle, Sarel Cilliers lost 17-26. It was an excellent final during which the boys played with true grit and determination, to concede to a stronger team.
Well done to the players and coaches.
Hiking
The Hiking Club left bright and early to go hiking on a local farm just outside Dundee. It was a short but extremely steep hike, challenging the hikers, but the view at the top was well worth the strenuous climb. Principal Mr Soobramoney and his wife joined the hike, which was enjoyed by everyone who took part. Thank you to organisers Mrs van den Berg and Mr Autaur.
On Friday, the choir travelled to Ferrum High School to take part in a local choir festival. Although one of the smallest choirs performing, the Sarel Cilliers singers roared their loudest and gave an outstanding performance. Well done to Mr Joubert. Later this term, Sarel Cilliers will be hosting a choral competition called ‘Battle of the Drums’, where many schools will take part.
There will be a special performance by the Drakensberg Boys Choir, so don’t miss this event. Tickets are on sale at the office.
