Dundee bowlers give Angus a send off as he heads for SA champs

A sportsman all his life on the rugby and hockey fields, Angus began playing bowls again from a wheelchair, then a walking ring, and now uses a walking stick to compete in tournaments.

Dundee Bowling Club members had a get-together last Wednesday evening to wish Angus Miller all the best after being selected to play in the South African Disability Bowls Championships in Somerset West, Cape Town, from March 17 to 23.
He was selected to play in the singles and doubles sections. Angus, who has played bowls for over 11 years at Dundee Bowling Club, suffered two strokes four years ago that left one of his legs paralysed.
“It was a real shock but with ongoing support from my family and many friends, especially those at Dundee Bowling Club, I managed to pull through by simply keeping up a positive attitude and a smile on my face,” he said.

He also uses an especially adapted bicycle in which he carries his bowling kit to and from the bowling club.
Angus started playing bowls 10 years ago, but suffered two major strokes in 2020.
He was invited to play in the Disability Nationals in Durban, where he excelled.
At last week’s get-together, the members of Dundee Bowling Club wished Angus all the best for the nationals – his third appearance at the tournament.
