Police in the Dundee district ‘clean-up’ over Easter weekend
SAPS members were hard at work in a bid to make the long weekend safer for all in the Umzinyathi District.
SAPS seized quantities of illegal ammunition and three firearms during the ‘Safer Easter’ operations conducted in the Umzinyathi District.
Besides the confiscating of illegal firearms and ammunition, SAPS also closed several illegal shebeens, took possession of dangerous weapons such as knives and arrested several suspects wanted for various outstanding cases.
Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana, District SAPS spokesperson said in the first incident in the Nquthu CBD, SAPS arrested a 33-year-old man while conducting a stop and search operation after he was found in possession of an unlicensed .38 revolve and ammunition.
In another incident, a swift response from Greytown members saw the apprehension of a 34-year-old male who was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition who was in a tavern.
In another incident in Msinga, SAPS spotted a motor vehicle in which there were four occupants. Upon stopping and searching the vehicle, one of the men in the car, a 27-year-old was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
All the arrested suspects will appear in Greytown, Nquthu and Msinga magistrates court
“Our District Commissioner Major General Francis Slambert said “criminals should have no space to commit crime in our presence” and she further thanked all the members involved in all the operations that have been taking place at the District and having good results,” Cst Nkwanyana told the Courier. A 34-year-old man has been arrested for possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
