Thieves take a blow thanks to swift work by Dundee security officers, SAPS
The suspects are believed to be behind a string of burglaries throughout Dundee. Bicycles and other goods were recovered.
Five thieves have been bought to book in recent weeks in three separate incidents thanks to swift work by ADT security and the SAPS.
Yusuf Khan, Fidelity ADT Ladysmith and Dundee Branch Manager said in the first incident, their control room received a panic alert from a resident on Cosmos Street.
“We dispatched response and a search of the home revealed a man hiding behind a door in one of the rooms.
“The suspect was apprehended and handed over for arrest to the Dundee SAPS.”
On the following day, ADT was told of a burglary in the vicinity of Anne and Colley Streets, where intruders had gained access to a site storage room and had stolen valuable items including five bicycles.
“The Fidelity Armed Response Team together with members from the Fidelity Special Interventions Unit (SIU) coordinated a strategic operation that yielded positive results.
“Two stolen bicycles and three suspects were apprehended and handed over for arrest to SAPS. Further investigation revealed that these suspects were linked to multiple cases of housebreaking and theft in the area,” said Khan.
The third incident was when Officer Shamase, noticed three individuals exhibiting suspicious behaviour and immediately requested support from the SIU.
“As the team approached the scene, the suspects attempted to flee, and a chase ensued. Officer Shamase successfully apprehended one of the suspects who was found in possession of a stolen water pump. “Further investigation revealed that the water pump had been stolen from Avbob, Dundee. The suspect was handed over to the SAPS and a case of theft was officially opened.
“That’s a total of five arrests in five days. Congratulations to everyone involved for their vigilance and great teamwork,” concluded Khan.
