Fierce veld breaks out in Mpati area, Dundee
Veld fires are common in the Dundee area with the onset of winter.
The fire brigade was called in yesterday evening, Tuesday, to contain a fierce veld fire that broke out near Protea Street in the Mpati area.
Residents described the fire was as ‘scary’ as the flames roared through the thick grass.
Phumlani Ntombela of Endumeni’s Disaster Management Services confirmed that the fire brigade would be dispatched.

While there were no immediate reports of damage, residents complained that the smoke made ‘breathing unpleasant’ throughout the night.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
