Solar energy boost for young job seekers in the Dundee district

Solar energy use has rocketed in the area since load shedding devastated many local businesses.

The rise in homes and businesses turning to solar energy has given a boost to 100 young people in the area receiving training on all aspects of this renewable energy source.

Umzinyathi Development Agency CEO, S Ntombela, said when they heard of ‘this opportunity they grabbed it with both hands as we all know the energy crisis we are currently facing.

“The training has helped the youth to turn the energy crisis into a new economy for the district whilst creating much-needed job opportunities. The trained youth will now be helped by the agency to open up their solar businesses. They will be also closely monitored by senior technicians for a certain period until their businesses can stand on their own.

” We wish all our trainees the best of luck as they are transitioning from being employment seekers to being employers,” he said.

Ntombela said there are high hopes that this solar enterprise concept will be successful and replicated. “We hope it does not end with this first batch as we encouraged the youth to take part in these initiatives designed to empower them,” he said.
