Dannhauser launches multi-million rand road upgrade project

Dannhauser has taken more steps to upgrade the village, with the launch of the road upgrading programme.
Mayor Bongani Rabebe launched the project at a ceremonial soil-turning event at Newtown Park.
The R7.8-million project includes the rehabilitation of Curran, Hibiscus, South, North and Park streets.
Umnotho Africa Saving is the contractor, with R846,000 set aside for the consulting engineers.
“We expect this project to be completed in eight months,” Mayor Rabebe said. He added that roads 1, 2 and 3 in Mafusini are also to be upgraded for R5.8 million and that too is an eight-month contract.
“We have received numerous complaints from this area and the complaints are very valid.
“So valid that, at times, we are scared to walk by the area, knowing that we are the municipal officials who are responsible for fixing roads.
“Due to various circumstances, we are not always able to address road issues as promptly as we would like. While we strive to tackle potholes as soon as they appear, our efforts are often hindered by the challenges we face.
Mayor Rabebe urged the community to take responsibility for the condition of the road.
“It is unacceptable for residents to resort to burning tyres on the road in protest, particularly when there is a water shortage. Such actions only result in further suffering for the people of Dannhauser. While the Amajuba District manages the water (services), the damage caused by these protests affects Dannhauser residents the most.”
