Female skeleton uncovered on Helpmekaar farm

The remains were transported to the Dundee Forensic Laboratory for further examination, which will include efforts to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances leading to the death.

Forensic experts are working with the SAPS to identify a skeleton of a female uncovered on a farm in the Helpmekaar area on Friday.

SAPS said a farm worker found the human remains on Valhalla farm. He notified his employer who immediately alerted the Helpmekaar SAPS.

Upon arrival at the scene, police conducted a thorough investigation. Preliminary findings suggested that the skeleton had been there for an extended period, but the exact cause of death and identity of the deceased remain undetermined at this stage. A navy blue t-shirt and a white wool hat were found adjacent to the skeleton.

“Helpmekaar detectives are working closely with forensic experts to gather more information, ” said Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana, Umzinyathi SAPS spokesperson.

“The Helpmekaar SAPS urges anyone who may have information that could assist in identifying the deceased or who has noticed any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

“Those with the relevant information can contact Detective Sergeant Seme at 0795001248 or Helpmekaar Police Station on 034 3267335/6. All information will be treated confidentially.”
