Buffalo River bursts banks after heavy rains
The river has burst its bank near De Jagersdrift on the Dundee/Vryheid road.

The Buffalo River has burst its banks near the Dundee/Vryheid road. The road is not affected but the river has come down in flood following heavy rains in the Newcastle area since Friday.
Endumeni’s water supply is pumped from the Buffalo River from Tayside. Ironically, Endumeni residents have been bedevilled by water cuts for many years with Glencoe particularly hard hit with taps running dry for days on end.
The water cuts have been blamed on poor infrastructure, a lack of pumping capacity at the Tayside pumping station and a too small water treatment plant at the Biggarsberg works that has not been updated in years.

Long-time Glencoe residents said the reservoir, near the prison, that supplies the town including Wasbank, was last upgraded in the 1970s and can no longer cope with the demand.
The Umzinyathi District Municipality is responsible for the area’s water supply but despite requests have not yet commented on the continuing water cuts.
