Dannhauser drama: Video footage emerges from would-be robbery and shooting

The normally quiet town of Dannhauser experienced a dramatic shooting on Monday when two robbers were subdued by members of the public and security guards.

Dramatic video footage has emerged of Monday’s attempted robbery at Rage Clothing store in Dannhauser.

Three men entered the Main Street shop in the afternoon and demanded money from an employee. It is not yet clear if the men were armed. The employee raised the alarm and security guards, on duty at an adjacent funeral parlour, rushed to help.

Members of the public tackled the men and hit them with bricks. One of the men managed to get into a vehicle to make his getaway. Shots were fired at him and witnesses said although he was hit and wounded, he sped off.

The car was later found abandoned and impounded at the Dannhauser police station.

The would-be robbers were arrested but had to undergo medical treatment.

Dannhauser SAPS confirmed that a manhunt is continuing for the third suspect who is believed to be from Ladysmith.
